A word search that is cut off at the right edge is not a worksheet, it is a phone call from a parent. These are the numbers every sheet on this site is built from — nothing here depends on your browser’s zoom level.
Paper and margins
- A4 portrait — 210 × 297 mm, 13 mm margins on all four sides, 184 × 271 mm of usable space.
- US Letter portrait — 8.5 × 11 in, same 13 mm margins, 190.5 × 250.5 mm usable.
- US Letter landscape — used only for 30 × 30 grids, where the extra width keeps the cells square.
Cell sizes
The grid is sized in millimetres, and the letters inside it scale with the cell. A 15 × 15 puzzle uses 12 mm cells; a 30 × 30 sheet is reduced to the smallest size that stays readable for a nine-year-old rather than being allowed to overflow the page.
The answer key
Every puzzle sheet is exactly one page, and its answer key starts on the page behind it. The key repeats the same grid with the words underlined, plus the coordinates of each word’s first letter, so a teaching assistant can mark without solving.
What if my printer still crops it
Print to PDF first — choosing “Save as PDF” in the same print dialog — and open that file. If the PDF is correct, the printer driver is scaling the page; set it to “Actual size” rather than “Fit to page”. If the PDF itself is cropped, that is a bug: send the paper size, grid size and browser, and it will be fixed.
Questions
Why millimetres instead of pixels?
A pixel is a screen unit; paper is physical. Sizing everything in millimetres means the same sheet prints at the same size in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox, whatever the zoom level or screen.
Do I need to trim the paper?
No. The grid, the word list and the footer all sit inside the 13 mm margin, so a sheet prints complete on any A4 or Letter printer that respects page margins.
Can I print two puzzles on one page?
Not from this layout — one sheet is one page by design, which is what keeps the answer key on the following page and the words readable.
Is the answer key optional?
Yes. The generator has a “Puzzle only” option; the class set and the ready packs always include a key behind each sheet.
